FROM GLORIA HOUSTON

Thanks, Kahla and Daniel, for sharing these with me.

England
Trafalgar Square so big,
With Big Ben towering beside it,
Tower Bridge where fireworks are displayed,
Boats stop by but then there are on their way,
Buckingham Palace.

Macedonia
Macedonia
The good old beans that I used to eat, the fun times riding on carts
Oh you just have to love Macedonia
Party all night in many different ways
Birthdays, christenings, name days, birth, death and weddings.
Oh what a tradition Macedonia!!

Ancient Rome
Ancient Rome is the home,
of all the Romans,
with the house of The Roman Empire,
it was sure to inspire,
all of Rome
They used the goblet,
they thought it was so special
with the jewellery they wore,
they were sure to have a ball,
before the city was burned!

 Ancient Greece
Geece is old,
there a lot of stories told,
about this country
how its never been sold.

The temples are confusing
but these buldings are losing
their strength each day
so their secret is kept anyway.

The Ancient Greece artifacts
are now being sold in packs
for thousands of dollars,
and ruining Greece's famous columns.

France

In prehistoric times several races
That made France their home,
The Celts, from Central Europe is,
Full of French people,
As they see their home as a retreat
From the world, full of love and happiness
Because the family is an essential part of
French life where people are very hard
Working here, they are honest and nice,
Cooking in their houses is like an art,
A skill which is passed on from
Generation to generation
Food, the most popular topic of conversation,
Memories of past wars, memories of past leaders,
The memory of Charles de Gaulle,
The beautiful things people that are very, very,
Happy about to see and to have in their houses
As the memory of Charles de Gaulle the great leader
Will live on forever.

Mirjana

London
A World class cultural centre,
Whether its kings or queens
Or famous things
With its religious refugees
and universities.
It has neon signs
and river banks.
From Buckingham Palace
to Canary Wharf Tower
everything is beautiful.
Whether it's the Pagoda or Palm House
it is AMAZING
and I'm not easily amazed.

Australia
I come from the land down under,
Where snags and shrimp are plenty,
Bushlands grow wildly,
Kangaroos jump free,
Golden soils and well for toils,
Homes are girt by sea,
Surfing wild waves,
Camping in the bush
I've finally found what I've been looking for.
A place called home.

Maddy

Greece
A land of many mountains crossed by
four short swiftly, flowing rivers,

A land where mountains grow high and rivers flow far,

A land of hundreds of islands in theAegean Sea,

Where Acropolis guards the city of Athens,

And folk dancing seen everywhere you go,

In the beautiful crowded cities,

Where people live in flats

And love to eat delicious foods

A beautiful place in a
young girls heart
God love Greece
For I do!

Fiji Islands
Fiji is a land
full of blissful tradition
Fijians share a land
also with Indo-Fijians
Fijians celebrate by doing the Meke
and the farewell song is the Isa Lei
Now for the telling
of Indo-Fijian tradition
Diwali, the festival of lights
with lots of wonderful sights
There is also Holi
The festival of colours
Now for my Isa Lei

India
Namaste: for this means "Hello and Welcome"!
The land is full of culture,
and wonderful people and great spices.
T'was invaded by many but
Independence came at last.
Plead for their God; respect for their
religion is very important.
Indians are fond of spicy food,
they love to make them,
served in fresh banana leaves.
Wonderful traditions are held with
great joy, Holi, Dervali and respectful prayers.
The joy with colours,
lights and fun for all.
The way to dress is so different
colourful, pretty and stylish.
Gorgeous jewellery, sweet people.
This is what I think of India.

Ireland
The wearin of the green
They were made to wear England's cruel red
Till the end of the world I'll stick to wearin red
Thank God we'll live and die still wearin the green
The flag of green, white and orange
Orange for the Protestant people
Green for the Catholic people
And white for the union of both
And the people of Ireland still wearin the green.

From Libby Gleeson

Dear Miss Libby Gleeson,

I am doing a library project on you and I was wondering if you can tell me any biography details about yourself ?
What have you achieved in your life?
How was your brining up as a child?
Is fame something very big or important for you?

We did not receive a message in poetic form from you.

From Kristy (Year 8)

Dear Kristy,

Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. I have been flat out with Book Week and it COMPLETELY slipped my mind.

How about this:
There once was a writer named Lib
Who told these students a fib
Said she'd write them a poem
But her brain it did roam
And so did any idea for a last line so write it yourself.....

As for biography. First of all, look at my website and after you've read the biography there, make some particular questions and ask me those.
Can you apologise to everyone for me?

Libby

POEMS FROM STUDENTS AT ANZAC HILL HIGH SCHOOL – ALICE SPRINGS

Dear Aspiring Poets,

When you are asked to write a poem, first find a subject that interests you and ask yourself about your feelings about it. How it looks, how it attracts or repels you. What colours are in or around it. How does it taste, what aroma has it , what does it sound like. By doing this, you become more aware of the subject and it’s relationship to you. You have many choices in how to handle a poem, in a serious mode or humorous. Just be honest and take your time to see if your work can be improved by using metaphors, or rhyme and rhythm in the line. Even blank verse has a rhythm when read out.  Do read your poems out aloud and you’ll quickly realise where it may need to be improved. Keep up the hard work. Good effort all round.

We have pizza rounds and pizza squares.

Students love them and show that they care.

For we have specials once a week

And would like to know of other special treats.

So, food ideas come and ideas go;

Most of all the foods are ones that the students know.

AND LOVE.!

From Rose Peterson

Hi Rayna,

Thank you for your reply and for the great poems. I agree that the world is
a wonderful place, and if we all do the right things we can all enjoy its
wonders to the fullest.

I'm sorry I can't help you with a copy of my book. It is now out of print
and I have given away my own copies of it. I believe it is still available
in public libraries. I am going to write a couple of sequels to it (have
been planning them for years but my life is really hectic). When I get round
to producing them I'll make sure your school gets copies. Hopefully you'll
still be young enough to enjoy them!!

Meanwhile, keep writing poems, and anything else you can think of, as it's a
wonderful way to communicate with the world.

Best wishes to all,

Rose Peterson.
